Ride Buddy

Earn Your Turns.  It has been a few years since I have ridden the trails in Provo Canyon.  Although the trails are not necessarily designed with mountain biking in mind, they are still a hoot.

I cam across this guy, sunning himself on the road.  Had to be close to five feet long.  Probably the largest snake I have come across.

No Rattle, so I thought I would get closer.

BFA Show

Well, we thought this time would never come, but it's finally here.  My BFA show is the last major step to graduating.  The show will run in the Orem City Rotunda from April 1st through the 30th.
The Opening reception will be held Friday April 4th from 7pm to 9pm.  So anybody that wants to come out is more than welcome to.  The real celebration (for me at least) is the mountain biking trip to Moab I have planned for the rest of the weekend.  I am stoked to be finishing up with school.

Moab

Moab is a pretty neat place.  The terrain seems unlike anything else, and the best part is that they don't get much snow, making the riding season almost year round.  After a bit of time off the bikes, it was nice to get back out there.  I have been using my BFA project as an excuse to travel a little more this winter to get some riding in.
My BFA show will be hanging throughout the month of April in the Orem, UT city building.
The opening reception for the show will be Friday April 4th from 7 to 9pm
Then, saturday morning I will be heading back to Moab to do some more mountain biking, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.  It's gonna be good times.  I am just looking forward to finishing school and after my BFA show I am pretty much done.

Pat on the back

Super stoked to get acknowledged by VitalMTB.com, one of the two biggest mountainbiking websites I know of.  A shot from my Red Bull Rampage shoot made Vital's "Daily Shot".  It's nice to be noticed by an outside source, because lets face it, friends and family can say that you are a good photographer all day long (teachers too for that matter) but when you get praised by a publication it just seems to be a bit more legit...

On a side not, Vital also put me into this weeks photo competition.  I am getting pretty creamed though. Currently in second place, with a huge gap to first.  I have to say this weeks competition is pretty tough.

Vote here at VitalMTB.com if you like

And here is a link to the Daily Shot that I got.

Bootleg

Me, in front of the camera instead of behind it.

I love shooting mountain biking. Love it. So much so that I don't mind lugging around 30+ pounds of photography gear on bike rides, especially if I have a shot in mind. Not every shot turns out. Sometimes what I picture in my head turns out to be far more grand than the reality. This is one such shot. Fortunately the trail was not super long or strenuous. Will and I rode the trails earlier that day and I scouted for locations. I had one in mind. A long fast descent into a rolling hill. The runway was rough and loose, as is the usual for Bootleg Canyon. I set up the camera on a tripod and had Will do a ride through or two to make sure that it was set up just the way I had envisioned it. Then I had him hit it at full speed... Nothing, definitely not what I had envisioned, I could have sworn that when I hit it there was a little more float time between takeoff and landing. I had Will run the camera and I hit it a few times (losing my iPhone on one run, but it was ok) I had a bit more speed and style than Will did, but the image never turned out quite how I wanted it. I shot a few more images that evening, but nothing turned out quite how I wanted it to.

Winter Escape

With Dani out of town helping Steph with Baby Josephine I had nothing on my plate. When you add in that there is no school for me Friday through the weekend and combine that with the shop being closed all week. It gave me the opportunity to go riding. Will, the mechanic I work with at the shop and myself headed out to Southern Utah and Las Vegas to take some pictures and get some mountain biking done.
Good times.
